Mercedes Duchicela

Biography

Duchicela has a general background in both public health and international development, focusing on gender studies, integrated technological innovations, and community health worker issues. She works to build capacity among vulnerable populations, engaging their participation and conducting innovative strategies to impact individuals and their communities. Duchicela’s multifaceted experience includes implementing conservation and development programs in the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin; integrating electronic health record technology into the clinics and hospitals in East Texas; and developing community health worker/promotores training in South Texas, Ecuador, and El Salvador. With extensive knowledge of culture and language, in tandem with a background in technology, social media, and GIS, she serves as the liaison between the USA Center and in-country partners, subject matter experts, and software technology support teams.
