Training

The USA Center offers a wide variety of education and training opportunities for both traditional and nontraditional responders. Our expertise in public health preparedness and response can be provided in a variety of formats, including online and in-person courses, workshops, toolkits and custom trainings.

Community Health Workers

The center offers a number of bilingual trainings designed to assist Community Health Workers/Promotores in protecting their communities against the spread of infectious diseases, communicating risk to a vulnerable population, recognizing and responding to mental health issues in a disaster, and preparing families for their response to public health emergencies. Face-to-face trainings include innovative strategies to assist this target audience in engaging their communities within the state and local Promotores’ network.

Accurate Completion of Cause of Death Certificate

Accurate and timely death reporting is crucial especially in developing strategies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. In addition to a series of trainings related to responding to mass fatalities, our newest online trainings provide guidance to medical certifiers on how to document cause of death, including specific information about how to document deaths related to a disaster. These 508-compliant trainings are also linked to TRAIN, a national site that offers access to trainings across the nation.

Online

We offer over 45 free online trainings, providing continuing education to over 8,500 individuals during the past five years. Whether you are a Community Health Worker (CHW) in another country seeking bilingual certification training, or a public health professional needing continuing education, we have a certified training option for you!

In-Person

Center staff are equipped to work with clients to develop in-person trainings to address specific learning objectives. Conducting surveys of workforce personnel or facilitating smaller in-person focus groups are just two techniques staff use to pinpoint the training needed and the most effective delivery modality to use to provide public, private and nongovernmental organizations with the expertise to prepare for and respond to all-hazard emergencies
