This course covers different types of public health emergencies and how to prepare for these different types of disasters. This course also covers the fundamental importance of preparing for a disaster early, both to save resources and to reduce casualties.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Define a public health emergency
  • Describe the key features of the national Laboratory Response Network (LRN)
  • Identify the federal agencies responsible for coordinating the response to a public health threat, and describe their individual roles

Intended Audience

Public health and emergency management personnel who want a basic understanding of preparing for a public health emergency event. No prior experience is required.
