Vulnerable Populations

Description

This course will help you define, locate, and reach older at-risk populations in an emergency. It will acquaint you with methods for developing an all hazards emergency preparedness plan for this specific population. This course should not take more than one hour to complete.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Define vulnerable population
  • Understand how to utilize Community Outreach Information Networks (COINs) by:
    • Identifying vulnerable older adult populations
    • Locating the elderly at-risk population
    • Reaching the elderly vulnerable population
  • Identify methods of locating vulnerable individuals in your community
  • Recognize characteristics that place older adults at risk
  • Apply strategies, resources, and tools to define, locate, and reach elderly at-risk populations

Intended Audience

Emergency management and public health individuals who want understand how to identify and assist vulnerable populations in their community, especially the elderly. No prior experience is required.
